Merri Millar is a local artist who believes in art as a lifestyle and the joy of expressing through dressing. Her small batch, slowly made brand MERi MiLA offers up one-of-a-kind porcelain jewellery, screen-printed shirts, art ceramics and limited prints. Everything is consciously created by Merri with art at its heart.

Cath returns this year opening her studio to visitors. Cath’s work reflects her travels and the unique colours, patterns and textures of the ever changing landscapes she explores.

I’m a potter and have been working with clay for about 8 years since moving to Straddie. I love creating large, functional ceramics for everyday and entertainment use, focussing mainly on slab building with an informal, imperfect effect. 

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of clay. The pieces emerging from these raw source materials and the alchemy of glazing and firing combine in a never-ending learning journey of shapes, textures and hues!

I fell in love with pottery after moving to the island eight years ago and joining our community pottery group.

On most days when at home you’ll find me at the wheel, throwing cups, mugs, bowls & dishes, or handbuilding with a variety of clays. I enjoy incorporating delicately beautiful Japanese underglaze transfers or experimenting with different glaze colours & techniques.

As an artist, I am perpetually captivated by the vastness of the ocean and the intricate beauty of the natural world. My childhood in Goompie (Dunwich), Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), was enveloped by the serene whispers of the sea and the untamed elegance of the land.
