Gil Scrine

iam: a painter
I started in high school when I fell in love with my art teacher. I never took it seriously until a couple of years ago. I was too busy being a parent, running my own business, and making and distributing films to stand in front of an easel for hours. I paint landscapes and portraits. Images beckon me - they pop out and beg for paint.

The phone camera is my constant companion. I scroll my images looking for the one that pops out, sometimes only a fraction of the whole image. I’ve re-discovered oils, having switched to acrylics because of the smell of turps. I love the gloss and silkiness of oils and the way they are so forgiving. I’ve been visiting Minjerribah and living here on and off since I was 5 years old. I paint the Island and love it more with every painting.
