The Headland

iam: Quandamooka Truth Embassy

The Point Lookout Headland is a sacred place. Since 2017, local Quandamooka Elders and community have been trying to stop the proposed development of a whale centre which would display whale bones on the headland at Point Lookout. In February 2021, in the spirit of the Aboriginal Embassy (an ongoing political action started in Canberra in 1972), the Quandamooka Truth Embassy was established as a last resort to preserve the cultural heritage of North Stradbroke Island’s Point Lookout and prevent the incoming infrastructure of a whale mall that would house the bones of one of the largest whales to wash up naturally on Stradbroke shores. Visit and gain understanding to the cultural significance of The Headland and why our community wish for this sacred area to be protected.
