Surrealist Artist Raymond Moult-Spiers 1920-1995
Raymond Moult-Spiers came to Australia as an 18 year old orphan from the UK under an Australian Government youth immigration scheme. In 1940 he enlisted in the Australia Army and served in in the Malay Peninsula in the 2/19th battalion. He was captured and interned at Changi and then the Burma Railway.
Raymond was a very prolific painter and followed two streams of work: realistic landscapes and surreal engagement. He lived at Amity Point from the early 1970’s until his death in 1995. He had a red London double decker bus and drove a large Buick. He has been described as a colourful character, unique and eccentric. He lived in Kindara Street.
