Clare Purser
iam: an artist and art educator
I am a Moreton Bay based artist and art educator. My work as an artist explores the fragile relationship between people and the environment, drawing on observation, memory, and material experimentation. I’m fascinated by the way landscapes hold stories—both personal and ecological—and how art can encourage us to pause and reflect on our shared responsibility to protect the natural world.
Much of my painting centres on Moreton Bay Marine Park, documenting its wildlife and ecosystems, including migratory birds, marine species, and its Ramsar‑listed wetlands. The goal is to highlight both the beauty of these environments and the pressures they face. I hope you can join me for the en plein air painting session at Bradbury Beach, where we’ll explore the shoreline and the many resident and visiting birds that call it home.

Plein Air Painting on Minjerribah Stradbroke Island
Join Moreton Bay based Artist & Educator Clare Purser for a relaxed, free plein air painting session at Dunwich/ Gompi’s Bradbury Beach — one of Minjerribah’s most ecologically significant shorebird habitats. This painting get‑together invites you to paint outdoors, and connect with the landscape that sustains so many migratory and endangered bird species. Bradbury Beach is a vital feeding and roosting site in Moreton Bay.
We’ll begin with a short introduction to Clare Purser’s practice and the influence of high‑conservation places like this one, then spread out to sketch and paint. No workshop structure — just a shared appreciation of art and nature. Bring your favourite materials (a sketchbook and small paint kit are perfect), plus a hat, water, and something to sit on. Local eateries and facilities are close by, and the Straddie Flyer is only a 10‑minute walk away.
Time: Friday 10am - 1pm
Location: Meet at Bradbury Beach, Dunwich
Price: Free event — raising awareness for the shorebirds of Minjerribah. NOTE: resident shorebirds will be at the beach however migratory shorebirds usually arrive at North Stradbroke Island from the Northern Hemisphere around September and stay until March.
