Thai Ong
iam: a colourblind artist
I paint landscapes, flora and fauna using palette knives. My love for painting started when I was 9 in a small fishing village in Penang Island. I started at the wet market using oil paints and crude instruments like wire and pieces of metal as palette knives.
Despite being colourblind, I was awarded a U.S Art scholarship at 14 but chose to stay to support my family. I became a working artist for the Canterbury Society of Arts when I migrated to New Zealand in 1976.
I paint with acrylics and enjoy plien-air painting.
