NSI Golf Club

iam: hosting the Minjerribah Photography awards

Nestled into its beautiful bushland setting, east of Dunwich, you find The North Stradbroke Island Golf Club. Over many decades the Club has been developed and lovingly cared for by its volunteers, earning it several award nominations as one of the best small country golf courses in Australia.

The competition’s Open Section prize honours Minjerribah elders and North Stradbroke Island Golf Club founding members, the late Aunty Margaret and Uncle Pat Iselin. Aunty Margaret was the first golfer to score a hole in one on the 12th Hole, just after the course opened. Margaret Iselin was a long-standing chairwoman of the Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders-in-Council and she and her husband Pat were instrumental in opening people’s hearts and eyes to the depth of Aboriginal knowledge and culture in the Island community.

The course is home to an abundance of birds including bee-eaters, masked lap-wing ‘plovers', sea-eagles, a variety of parrots, stone curlews, endangered glossy black cockatoos, and of course, the golf club’s logo — the colourful lorikeets — and it is those BIRDS which this year form the theme for the photography competition.
