Mandy Chen

iam: a ceramic artist
Bridging her birthplace, Taiwan, and her adopted home in Australia, Mandy Chen, a 3rd culture kid, weaves a tapestry of cultures, life experiences, and emotions into her creative canvas. As a teenager, Mandy embarked on a voyage of self-discovery, navigating the cultural intricacies of transitioning from Taiwan to Australia. The hallowed sanctuary of art and interior design studies became her refuge, where she not only found acceptance but also nurtured her deep passion for creative expression.

Living on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island), Mandy became immersed in the vibrant community of the Quandamooka people. Their profound respect and harmonious bond with the natural world resonated deeply with her, and this connection to the earth is evident in her chosen medium – ceramics. Through this tactile practice, Mandy pushes boundaries and yields endless creative surprises.

Today, her art harmonizes two central themes: the fragile ecological state of our planet and a heartfelt desire to channel the masterful spirit of her ancestors. It's a never-ending journey of observation, expression, learning, and self-discovery. Through her art, Mandy extends an invitation to journey alongside her. Contemplate the rich cultural and environmental narratives interwoven in her work, and explore the seamless confluence of past and present, East and West, in her artistic expression.
