Bernadette Mollison

iam: a visual artist
I am a Visual Artist pursuing my passion for creating visual works which both reflect and encourage contemplation of our world.

I feel privileged to walk on, and create within the incredible beauty of the lands and waters of the Noonuccal, Goenpul and Ngugi peoples. My work aims to capture a sense of the spirit I feel within the ever-changing, cyclical and interconnected nature of Minjerribah/Terrangerri/North Stradbroke Island’s unique environment. The learnings I have undertaken through the generosity of community Elders, cultural mentors and friends also inspires my watercolour and mixed media works.

My works feature island flora and fauna; land and seascapes of the foreshore; and seasonal changes including the mullet fishing season. I paint and draw predominantly with acrylic, watercolour, ink and pencil on a range of grounds including Arches paper, and canvas or board prepared with watercolour or acrylic gesso. During the Arts Trail I will have a range of different sized works on exhibit and for sale.

I work from my home studio, and exhibit and teach both young people and adults from within my Bench & Easel Gallery, or outdoors within this special place. The Bench & Easel will feature both my own work and that of my students during the 2024 Island Artists and Makers Arts Trail, including one of our young IAM artists Bella Powell. I will also be offering two drawing and watercolour workshops during the weekend. If the weather is fine, there will also be some opportunities for little ones to undertake some informal creative activities with a small donation for materials.
