Opening Event - Straddie Arts Trail 2026
$0.00

Join us for the official opening of the 2026 Straddie Arts Trail as we celebrate the creativity, stories and artistic spirit of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island).

This special opening event will feature a screening of Makers of Meaning, an inspiring documentary that explores the powerful role creativity plays in helping us navigate life's challenges. The film asks a simple but profound question: "How has art saved you?"

The featured episode follows local artist and maker Craig Clarey, whose journey of grief, healing and resilience is expressed through the sculptures he has created across the island. What began as a deeply personal act of remembrance for his late sister evolved into a life-sustaining creative practice, transforming loss into an enduring artistic legacy.

Following the 11-minute screening, filmmakers Tom Francis and Danielle O'Brien will join Craig for a special discussion about the making of the film, the therapeutic power of creativity, and the stories behind the documentary series.

The afternoon will also include the official opening speeches, welcoming visitors and artists to the 2026 Trail, and a relaxed reception with refreshments and an opportunity to connect with artists, makers and fellow arts lovers.
