Kym Renay
iam: a photographer
Kym Renay is an Australian film photographer and darkroom printmaker. Her practice is centred on ecological literacy and contemporary landscapes. Following postgraduate studies in environmental humanities, her art seeks to engage introspection, drawing on place identity, the natural and built environment, and the angst of the Anthropocene.
Her work fluctuates between realism and abstraction, challenging perceptual flexibility. A lens-based artist enamoured by printmaking, she experiments with alternative and botanical darkroom processes, favouring the lightest footprint where possible.
Kym works from her darkroom studio based in Meanjin/Brisbane, and pays respect to Yuggera, Turrbal, and Quandamooka land and peoples.
